New President and CEO Le Manh Hung: “Join efforts for PVN’s development”

On 26th June 2019, the State Capital Management Committee at enterprise and Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) announced the decisions to appoint Vice President Le Manh Hung as member of the Board of Directors, President and CEO of the Group.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh – member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at enterprise; Mr. Le Van Chau – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Centrally-run Businesses’ Sector; Mr. Dang Hoang An – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade and leaders of ministries, departments and central branches.

PVN was represented by Mr. Tran Sy Thanh – member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Mr. Nguyen Vu Truong Son, Mr. Pham Xuan Canh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, member of the Board of Directors and other members of the Board of Directors, Executive Management Board, leaders from Divisions/ Administration Office of the Group and from subsidiaries.

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Canh Toan – Director of Personnel Department, State Capital Management Committee at Enterprise and Ms. Bui Thi Nguyet – member of the Party Standing Committee, Head of the Organization and Human Resource Management Department of PVN announced the decisions to appoint member of the Board of Directors, President and CEO of PVN.

Accordingly, on 20th June 2019, the Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at enterprise signed Decision No. 219/QD-UBQLV to appoint Vice President Le Manh Hung as member of the Board of Directors of PVN.
On 25th June, PVN decided to appoint Mr. Le Manh Hung, member of the Board of Directors to the position of President and CEO.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee Nguyen Hoang Anh affirmed it was the trust of the Government, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Capital Management Committee, the Party Committee of the Centrally-run Businesses’ Sector and the Party Standing Committee, the Board of Directors and employees of PVN for the Group in general and Mr. Le Manh Hung in particular.

PVN today has made great progress, complete and synchronous in both width and depth, become the best corporate model and the bright spot to prove the important role of the state enterprise in a socialist-oriented market economy. PVN has a good tradition of constantly rising, overcoming all difficulties and hardships of those who have the desire to seek oil to enrich the country. The historical tradition and achievements of PVN are not only the driving force for all activities of the Group in the future but also the pressure for the officials and employees, especially those who are assigned the task to inherit and promote the good tradition.

Emphasizing PVN was in a difficult period due to many subjective and objective factors, however, with solidarity and unity of the Group’s staff, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh believed that PVN would overcome difficulties and develop sustainably, determine to drive Vietnam oil and gas vessel forwards, with the wholehearted effort and dedication of the new President, leaders, officials and employees.

Affirming the responsibility and role of the Board of Directors and President of PVN was very heavy, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh proposed in the future, new President Le Manh Hung should join hand with the Group’s leaders to focus on implementing the strategy to develop the oil and gas industry of Vietnam until 2025 and vision to 2035 in accordance with the guideline of the Politburo in Resolution No.41-NQ/ TW.

“In the context that PVN faces many difficulties, you play a very important role in gathering the team, raising the spirit of solidarity, joining efforts with the Group’s leaders and laborers to complete the tasks entrusted by the Party and the Government” said Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh.

Also at the ceremony, on behalf of leaders of the Party, Ministries, Central branches, Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee Nguyen Hoang Anh thanked Mr. Nguyen Vu Truong Son for his contribution to the development of the oil and gas industry, step by step with the Group’s leaders and employees overcome difficulties, at the same time he wished Mr. Nguyen Vu Truong Son continue to fulfill the tasks as member of the Board of Directors of PVN.

Greeting to PVN’s new President and CEO Le Manh Hung who has been trusted by the Party, the State, the Committee, the Group’s leaders, officials and employees, Mr. Nguyen Vu Truong Son – member of the Board of Directors and previous President called for solidarity and consensus of all officials and employees of the Group, joining efforts to help Mr. Le Manh Hung complete the task.

Delivering speech on acceptance of mission, Mr. Le Manh Hung expressed his gratitude to the Party Civil Affairs Committee, the Government, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Party Committee of the Centrally-run Businesses’ Sector, the State Capital Management Committee, Ministries and Branches for their support, trust, acceptance and agreement for the Board of Directors to appoint him as member of the Board of Directors and President of PVN; thanked the Party Standing Committee, leaders, key officials of the Group, the Party Committee Secretary – Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Group for their trust and introduction to the competent authorities for consideration.

“I deeply understand that it is not only the trust you put in me but also the expectation for my fulfillment of difficult and complicated tasks of the Group in my new position” said Mr. Le Manh Hung.

On the basis of deep awareness of the Group’s difficulties and challenges, analysis of the characteristics of the industry, advantages and disadvantages as well as the acquisition of directing and assigning tasks from superiors, Mr. Le Manh Hung affirmed that he would try his best for PVN’s development and implement 6 major tasks of the Group: Perfecting the leadership of the Group; Managing resources and organizing the implementation of the sector strategy; Strictly managing finance and investment; Managing and promoting production and business, expanding markets to increase value and improve production and business efficiency; Simultaneously and comprehensively deploying risk management and risk control in the Group’s activities and regenerating oil and gas culture in new period so that employees believe, have strong attachment and contribution, promote capacity and creative spirit to overcome difficulties for PVN’s development.

In order to fulfill such a great task, Mr. Le Manh Hung called on PVN’s leaders and all officials, employees to unite, join efforts for the development of the Group.

“I believe with the bravery and intelligence of the oil and gas workers who have been trained over the years, especially through storms, we need to show work results and efficiency through discipline to gradually regain the trust of the Party, the State’s leaders and people”, emphasized Mr. Le Manh Hung.

On the occasion, Mr. Le Manh Hung also proposed and hoped leaders at all levels trust the oil and gas industry, care and support, especially remove difficulties in terms of mechanisms and policies for the Group to continue developing.
On behalf of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, Executive Management Board of the Group, at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors thanked the leaders of the Party, the Government and the State Capital Management Committee for their interest and assistance so that PVN consolidate the leadership of the Group.

“This is a great expectation of the oil and gas workers in the past months. It is alo decision of the senior leaders, showing their trust in the oil and gas workers’ choice for the President and CEO”, said Chairman Tran Sy Thanh.
Mr. Le Manh Hung was born in 1973 in Hung Yen Province. He is a member of the Party Standing Committee and Vice President of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group from 2013 to present. Currently, he is in charge of Petrochemical Refining Industry; Gas Industry, Electrification projects; Safety – Health – Environment; Quality Management and Information Technology of the Group.

In terms of professional aspect, he is a Doctor of Petrochemicals. He has assumed such positions as Technology Engineer – Dung Quat Oil Refinery; Technology Engineer – PetroVietnam Drilling Mud Corporation; Expert of Oil and Gas Processing Division – Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group; Expert – Petroleum Department, Government Office; Deputy Head of Petroleum Processing Division – Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group; Deputy General Director of Long Son Petrochemical Joint Venture Company; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long Son Petrochemical Company; Project Manager of Ca Mau Gas – Power – Fertilizer Complex; General Director of PetroVietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer Joint Stock Company; Chairman of the Board of Directors of PetroVietnam Drilling Mud Corporation; Vice President of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group. He has worked for many years (nearly 20 years) in the oil and gas industry, has been trained with oil and gas expertise, has experience and capacity in management, has assumed many positions as leader and manager from investment projects to production and business, through models of project management, joint-venture companies, joint-stock companies, parent company – Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and state management at the Government Office.
