Energy storage is an effective solution for efficiency improvement of REPs in Vietnam

Source

On November 24, 2021, with the support of the State central management agencies, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Office of the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development (ONEDSC), the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERAV), the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), a number of Vietnamese and international organizations and enterprises… The Scientific Council of Vietnam Energy Magazine will organize a workshop on “Application of the energy storage systems and technologies for efficiency improvement of the renewable energy (RE) projects in Vietnam”.

Scientific conference on: “Application of energy storage system and technology to improve efficiency for renewable energy projects in Vietnam”.

The workshop aims to find solutions and proposals to remove difficulties and obstacles in capital mobilization, construction investment in construction and efficient operation for the current wind and solar power projects. At the same time, the participants of the workshop would propose the mechanisms and solutions to overcome the problems for maximizing the power generation (by investment solutions in the energy storage equipment, technology, and power grid stabilization) of RE projects and to resolve technical problems of Vietnam’s power system.

In recent time, the strong development of wind and solar power projects promoted the capacity of these two plants to nearly 28% of the total national system installed capacity by the end of October 2021. Vietnam’s power system was and will face many technical problems (power grid overload, generation redundancy at some times, supply-demand imbalance in some areas…). That leads to reducing or stopping the generation of RE projects many times in accordance with the requirement of a safe power system operation.

The situation is causing serious difficulties for the investors of solar and wind power projects, weakening finance – capital model as a commitment of the investors to the lenders and also causing difficulties for the national power system management and operation.

Therefore, the application of energy storage systems and investment in technologies for efficiency improvement of the RE projects in Vietnam are interested very much by the energy investors, managers and operators.

The workshop on “Application of the energy storage and technologies for efficiency improvement of RE projects in Vietnam” is urgent forum for RE managers, equipment and technology producers, suppliers and consultants as well as domestic and international and investors recount, exchange the technical difficulties and complexes in power system operation, the need and effectiveness of the energy storage systems and pump-storage hydropower projects in power system with a considerable rate of RE projects.

The main contents of the workshop include

Firstly: the workshop is an opportunity for consultants to exchange research results on pump-storage hydropower projects, storage battery systems, power system technologies and equipment; the experiment of RE development of the regional countries and over the world.

Secondly: The workshop is a chance for managers and operators to exchange the technical difficulties and complexes in the management and operation of a power system with a high rate of RE projects. The investors put forward difficulties and obstacles, the status of mobilizing capacity of the RE projects in recent time and desire and ability to invest equipment, technologies (energy storage batteries) for efficiency improvement.

Thirdly: the workshop is an opportunity for the equipment producers and suppliers to introduce to investors the potential of producing advanced equipment and technology with high efficiency, high economic effectiveness; technological trend and the costs of the equipment and technology in the coming time.

At present, the Organization board of the workshop has received 20 qualitative presentations from the State management agencies, domestic and international groups, corporations as the ONEDSC, ERAV, EVN, PSDC, NPTC, PEEC2, Danish Embassy in Vietnam…and a number of the equipment and technology producers and suppliers as SMA, Growatt, Solis, Hopewind…
