On 29 Jun 2024, in the series of activities to promote Marubeni’s new business on Offshore Wind’s Supply Chain in APAC, Mr. Seiji Kawamura – head of power business at APAC region, Marubeni Corporation has visited Doosan Enerbility’s factory at Quang Ngai province, Vietnam. Following that, Marubeni Corporation signed an MOU with Doosan Enerbility Vietnam for “Cooperation of Offshore Wind Power in Vietnam”. Participating of the MOU signing ceremony, there’s Mr. Hyotae Kim, CEO of Doosan Enerbility Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Doosan Vina) and representatives from Doosan Enerbility’s Hanoi office and Marubeni Asian Power Vietnam Co., Ltd.
Sharing information in the ceremony, Mr. Kawamura emphasized that Marubeni is keen on development of green and sustainable energy, hence, offshore wind will play a very important role in Marubeni’s strategies. Vietnam’s economy is rapidly growing than any other country in the Southeast Asia region, and power demand is also expected to significantly increase continuously. Considering the Vietnam Government’s strong commitment to Net-Zero by 2050, the role of offshore wind projects is essential for Vietnam’s economic growth and achievement of Net-Zero commitment. Marubeni, having a 50-year presence in the power sector in Vietnam, has a good understanding of Vietnam’s power industry and, together with its experiences for offshore wind power projects all over the world, wishes to contribute to Vietnam’s economy and government policy.
Following the execution of the MOU, Marubeni and Doosan Vina will jointly study and explore the feasibility and viability of collaboration in Vietnam. Doosan Vina plans to manufacture Wind Turbine monopile foundations and other components for the Offshore Wind farm at Doosan Vina’s 100-ha factory in Quang Ngai province. Marubeni also intends to explore and expand collaboration with other capable Vietnamese local manufacturing companies for localization of the equipment to the extent possible, to contribute to the economic growth and development of the offshore wind power industry in Vietnam.
